Music by The Piano Brothers

Ruby L. Cole, 100, a resident of Barry, IL died on Friday, December 21, 2018 at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 18, 1918 in Forest City, IL, a daughter of Charles and CoraBelle Petty Dunker. She married Oral A. Cole on October 21, 1944 in St. Louis. He died January 12, 2000.

Mrs. Cole blessed her family and friends with her cooking, sewing, gardening, oil painting and storytelling. Ruby would tell of her adventures of growing up in Mason County, IL; of her first employment in Peoria, IL; of her marriage to Oral Cole: of her leadership in PTA Way and Means Committee in which they established the first ever thrift store in Hull, IL: of her enjoyment and involvement in bridge clubs: of her labor of love in preparing goodies for church bazaars and community affairs: of her part-time restaurant work for her sister, Pearl: of her employment as a banquet waitress at the old Holiday Inn in Quincy: of her involvement in founding the Hull Art Club to help promote the arts in her community. Her pear honey and baked fish and oyster dressing at Thanksgiving are just a few of the delicious treasure in the memories of her children and family. Eating at the table with family and taking time to visit were especially significant parts of her life. On her 100th birthday she was showered with cards and flowers and this delighted her.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce Cole of Griggsville, IL and Bradley Cole of Lincoln, IL: a daughter, Jane Kelley of Warrenton, MO: 20 grandchildren, 38 great- grandchildren and two great great- grandchildren; one brother, John Dunker of Hull; two sisters, June Lingwall of Hull and Pat Likes of Barry. Also nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

She was preceded in death by a great grand-daughter, five brothers, four sisters, three nieces and three nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 28, 2018 at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Reverend Jerry Bown officiating. Burial will be at Quincy Memorial Park in Quincy following the service. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. prior to the service on Friday. Memorials in Mrs. Cole’s honor may be made to the Hull United Methodist Church Outreach fund. Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry is handling the arrangements.

Jane, Brad & Bruce,

Your mother was a wonderful, talented lady. I so enjoyed going to your house. I'll always remember her great cooking, waxed kitchen floors, lily pond with gold fish and all the fun I had there with Jane, especially in the tree swing. You have my upmost sympathy, but what a life she lived! 100!! Wow!! My thoughts and prayers are with you.
