Helen Rosabelle Moore, age 91, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield.  She was born on October 13, 1927 in Pittsfield, IL to Homer and Leona Norton Roads.  She was married to Vinton “Buster” Moore, and he preceded her in death on November 22, 2002.

Helen graduated from Higbee High School in 1944.  She met her husband, Buster, in 1954 at Florence, and they were married three months later on July 4.  They moved around for a little while before settling back in Pike County outside of New Salem, where she raised their children and helped Buster on the farm.  After moving to town many years later, Helen worked as a secretary at Dr. Artman’s office, at a flower shop, in the kitchen at Illini Hospital, and lastly at PCS as a cashier.  After retiring,  she stayed home to care for her husband.  Helen was in the Pittsfield Dance Club, attending many dances over the years with her husband, and also playing in a bowling league together.  She was a member of the Independence Christian Church, the Pittsfield Women’s Club, and helped with Girl Scouts in earlier years.  Helen liked to read and crochet.  She was also a great cook, and was best known for her fried chicken and homemade buttermilk pancakes.  She enjoyed going out to eat every Monday with her friends, and dearly loved her dog, Boo, and especially her grandchildren.  While residing at Liberty Village, Helen became well known for her assertive personality and she made many friends.

She is survived by three daughters, Karen O’Connor of Moore, Oklahoma, Susan (Terry) Evans of Pittsfield, IL, and Michelle (Gus Stewart) Moore of  St. Charles, MO; five grandchildren, Bryan Evans, Jeremy (Jennifer Burns) Evans, Justin (Megan) Evans, Patrick (Marissa) O’Connor, and Heather O’Connor; five great grandchildren, Connor Evans, Gracie Evans, Ryder Evans, Liam O’Connor, and Scarlett O’Connor; and one brother, Earl Roads of Pittsfield, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Buster Moore; her parents, Homer and Leona Roads; and siblings, Maxine Potoki, Anna Mae Norton, Leon Roads, and David Roads.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Clint Weir officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.  Interment will be held privately at a later date.  Memorials are suggested to Liberty Village Garden Court.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
