Gary Minear, 78 of Barry passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 5, 2018 at the Barry Community Care Center. He was born in Kelso, WA on March 16, 1940 to Leonard and Leta (Gresham) Minear.

Gary enlisted in the US Navy at 17, and served as a cook.  He extended his tour after 2 years to sail to Australia before separating after 3 years.  Back at home, Gary cooked for several years at local restaurants in Pittsfield.  He later began a career over the road trucking.  He drove the entire United States and some in Canada as well.  He moved to Tulsa, OK for several years and worked as an instructor for trucking.  Gary eventually moved back to Pike County, and drove trucks locally for a time before retiring in 1995. Gary had a passion for horses and while in Oklahoma, he owned horses and enjoyed riding.  He was a self-taught gunsmith, and also liked fishing and enjoyed his CB, even long after his retirement.  

He is survived by a son, Walter Tinsley of The Woodlands, TX, three daughters; Leta (Dale) Hartley of Liberty, IL, Kathy (Todd) Goehl of Quincy, IL and Cindy Howard of Baylis, IL. 18 grandchildren; Amy Barks, Jason Reynolds, Elisha Bechtold, Greg Howard, Stephen Howard, Johnny Bryant, Alisha Stolte, Rick Lish, Brandon Lish, Rachel Summers, Douglas Hartley, Melaine Taylor, Regina Taylor, Bryan Fee, Tyler Fee, Courtney Fee, Tyler Goehl and Taylor Goehl, 37 great grandchildren and one great - great grandchild on the way. Also surviving is a brother, John Minear of Columbia, Mo and five sisters; Barbara Neff of Hannibal, Wanda Goewey of Nebo, Patricia Lord of Hannibal, Claudia Cox of Hannibal and Mary McAfee (Dean) also of Hannibal.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Robert Minear, four sisters; Frances, Linda, Sheila and Delores and three brothers; Mike, Denny and Walter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, September 10, 2018 at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Pastor Ron Tallcott officiating. Burial will be at Samuel Taylor Cemetery at Rockport following the service with graveside military rites conducted by the Barry American Legion Post #222. Visitation will be from 11 – 1:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the family. On-line condolences may be left at nieburfh.com. Leta and Dale and Family, so very sorry to learn of Garys passing. Loss of a loved one so dear is a very hard thing to go through. Rest assured that he is in Heaven and is free of all problems and enjoying his family that we waiting for him. My prayers and thoughs are with you and yours. I love you all!
