Roberta May Franklin, 89, of Pittsfield passed away on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Liberty Village.  She was born on a farm west of Nebo on October 5, 1927, the daughter of Owen and Daisy Franklin.

Roberta attended Nebraska Schoolhouse and graduated from Nebo High School in 1945.  She worked as a beauty operator in Pittsfield, then as a telephone operator, and eventually moved to St. Louis to work for Bell Telephone.  Her career as an executive secretary with "Ma Bell", which eventually became American Telephone & Telegraph or AT&T, spanned decades.  Roberta moved to Kansas City, MO in the late 1960s and lived there for more than twenty years.  Upon retirement, she moved back to Pittsfield and her childhood community.  She worked part-time at Casteel's Color Wheel and drove senior citizens as a volunteer for years.  Roberta was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and was very active in her church communities in Pike County, South St. Louis, Kansas City, and Pittsfield.  She was also an avid baseball fan, cheering for and attending many games of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals.  She even name one of her cats for the Royals All-Star second baseman Frank White.  She dearly loved cooking and baking for large family gatherings, including mini chocolate chip cookies, and many, many family wedding cakes.  She sewed all of her life, and made hundreds of flannel baby blankets.

She is survived by her sister, Lois Franklin of Pittsfield; her brother-in-law, Carroll Borrowman of Pittsfield; and her six nieces and nephews, Ellen (Steve) Lowe of Pittsfield, Paul Borrowman of Pittsfield, Laura Johnmeyer of Louisiana, MO, Andrew (Sheryl) Borrowman of Nebo, Daniel (Jackie) Borrowman of Pittsfield, and Jane (Rick) Kulow of Charlottesville, Virginia; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Roberta is preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Franklin Borrowman.

I recently read about the loss of your dear loved one. Although we are not acquainted personally, please accept my condolences. Losing a dear loved one can leave a very empty space in one’s life. Please find strength, hope, and comfort in the God of Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4).
