Music by The Piano Brothers

Robert "Bob" Louis Otter, 88 of Pittsfield passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  Bob was born on November 28, 1928 in Argyle, WI, a son of George A. and Hattie Leffler Otter.  He married Barbara Holmes on December 18, 1948 in Dodgeville, WI; Barbara preceded him in death on December 22, 2006.

After high school Bob enlisted into the United States Navy serving from 1946-1948 as a parachute rigger. After his discharge from the Navy, Bob began his career with the Wisconsin International Harvester Company. In 1967 Bob transferred to the International Harvester store in Pittsfield until its closure.  He then worked in the executive branch of International Harvester in Effingham as a major account sales manager until his retirement, returning back to Pittsfield to enjoy his retirement.

In Bob's earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and brothers and also taking family trips to the cabin in Wisconsin. Later in his years, with his love of the outdoors and animals, Bob would go to the woods armed with his camera rather than a gun, taking pictures of the wildlife. He also enjoyed and took great pride in his lawn and landscaping.  In their earlier years Bob and Barbara enjoyed traveling to Yellow Stone National Park, Bahamas, Australia and New Zealand.

He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and served as an Eucharistic minister.  He was a member of the Old Orchard Country Club and loved golfing on the Thursday afternoon men's day with his golf buddies.  Bob and his golf buddies would continue to meet for lunch on Thursday afternoons throughout the years.  He loved his cat, "Kitty" and his Mercedes convertible was his pride possession.

Bob is survived by his children, Mark (Christa) Otter of St. Peters, MO; Sherry (Mark) Richards of Pittsfield; Debra (Thomas) Baker of Pittsfield; eight grandchildren, Kurt Bloyd, Dawn Null, Douglas (Alicia) Richards, Lisa (Nakia) Benson, Josh (Michelle) Strohecker, Lance Strohecker, Lacy (Brett) Shearer and Logan Otter; three step grandchildren, Erin Baker, Brogan Uphoff and Halle Shearer; and seven great grandchildren, Clinton and Olivia Bloyd, Abby and Michael Null, Isaiah Benson and Bodey Shearer.  Additional survivors are two brothers, Harold Otter of Burlington, WI and Virgil (Barbara) Otter of St. Simone Island, GA; and a sister, Doris Ripp of Madison, WI.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; a son, Michael; a brother, Jackie Otter; a sister-in law, Evelyn Otter; and a brother-in-law, August Ripp.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Deacon Kim Scott officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.   Interment will be in the West Cemetery in Pittsfield with military honors accorded by the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152 military honor guard.
