Gerald Paul Shonhart, 73 of rural Nebo passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.  Gerald was born on September 10, 1943 in Pittsfield, a son of the late Paul and Marietta Shaw Shonhart.  He married Edna Burns on December 22, 1963 in the Nebo Nazarene Church; she survives.

Gerald attended Nebo grade school, graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1961 and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb.  After one year of college Gerald started working for Gib Shaw doing carpenter work and never looked back.   He loved carpentry, it was his life. He also worked for Hubbard Milling Co. in Nebo while working as a carpenter at night.  He later started his own contracting business, building countless homes in the area and the beautiful Heartland Lodge and Walnut Knob lodges.

Gerald farmed and raised livestock for many years and if he had spare time he enjoyed working on the farm and tending to his livestock and mowing.

He was a long time member of the Nebo Nazarene Church, serving as a past board member; served as a precinct committeeman for Spring Creek Township for many years; served two terms for the Pike County Water District and stayed active in the community.

Surviving are Gerald's wife, Edna; a son, David (Beth) Shonhart of Nebo; a daughter, Cindy Shonhart Crowder of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Marcus (Jayme) Crowder, Matthew (Rachel) Shonhart, Gregory Shonhart, Demi (Devin) Clinton, Cassidy (Hunter) Turner and Samuel Shonhart; in addition to nine great grandchildren.   Gerald was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.

so sorry for your loss, I did not know he was sick Edna, he is a very good caring kind soul, Him and Chuck enjoyed each others company. We lost contact when we had to close the business and move to Quincy for work, wish we could have just stayed here and been with good friends like you and Gerald. God Bless you and your children and may Gerald rest in peace till you are together again with the lord, and the lord is with you now cling to him.

Edna and family, I am sorry to learn the loss of your husband, father, and Grandfather. I only knew Him thru his reputation as an excellent builder/carpenter. Always praise-worthy.
My thoughts and prayers for God to comfort you at this time.
Sincere sympathy, Bonnie
