Jerry Edwin Schulz, age 81, of Barry, IL left this earthly life on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO. He was born on February 10, 1940 in New Holland, IL to Herbert and Virginia Dunker Schulz. Jerry married Rita Sue Moore on June 4, 1961 and she preceded him in death on April 13, 2005. He later married Mary Harrison McDannald on January 20, 2007 and she survives.

He graduated from West Pike High School in 1958 and joined the United States Army. After serving his country and receiving his honorable discharge in January 1965, he was a heavy equipment operator then he began his lifelong local farming career and successfully harvested crops just last fall without missing a beat. He also worked with his father in his water well drilling business. Jerry was a member of First Baptist Church of Barry but also attended United Baptist Church of Kinderhook. He also served as the former Commander of Pike County Emergency Corps as well as serving as past Commander of the Barry American Legion Post #222. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of New Canton, and the Pike County Farm Bureau. Jerry enjoyed deer, waterfowl, turkey, as well as mushroom hunting and shared his love of the sport with family and friends. He also enjoyed camping and trout fishing. Jerry was a highly respected man in his community as well as a gentle and loving family man who made many friends and never knew a stranger. He loved family gatherings and was known as a peacekeeper and humorous storyteller and took pride in his position as a coffee shop coach.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Lloyd Edwin Schulz of Hannibal, MO and Herbert Austin (Teresa) Schulz of Barry, IL; daughters, Jan (Rob) Gates of New Canton, IL, Tracy (Greg) Stout of Smithton, IL and Susan Renae Schulz Stark of Ely, NV; nine grandchildren, Ashlynn (Jacob Jarrett) Schulz, Autumn Schulz, Herbert Avery Schulz, Alicia Loutzenhiser (Dan Levato), Shannon Gates, Garrett Stout, Bailey Estelle Schulz, Kaycee Belle Schulz and Logan Alexander Stark; stepchildren, Beth (Mark) Steiniger of Litchfield, IL and Angela (Kevin) Allensworth of DeWitt, IA; seven step grandchildren; thirteen step great grandchildren; brother, Jack (Barb) Schulz of Philadelphia, MO and sisters, Judy White of Palmyra, MO, Janet Hamilton of Springfield, TN and Jena Schulz of Quincy, IL along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Virginia Schulz; his first wife, Rita Sue Schulz; and grandson, Hoyt Austin Stout.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry.  Interment will follow at Shearer Cemetery near New Canton.  Visitation will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to be made to Pike County Emergency Corps or Barry American Legion Post #222.
