Stephen Wayne Manker, 46, of Detroit, IL passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018 at his home surrounded by family.  He was born on November 1, 1971 to James R. and Connie J. Lawson Manker in Pittsfield, IL.  He married Susan Hudelson in Pittsfield on June 3, 2011, and she survives.

Steve graduated from Griggsville High School in 1989, where he was very active in the FFA serving as a Section Officer.  He went on to attend John Wood Community College for two years, serving on the board as a Student Trustee.  After college, he stayed to work at John Wood as a maintenance man.  Steve worked several other jobs in the Quincy area before working at County Market in Pittsfield and beginning his career at Illinois Department of Corrections in 1995.  He started out as an Officer and shortly became a Maintenance Craftsman.  He resigned from IDOC after 21 years in July of 2016 due to illness.  Steve enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He liked to go rock hunting and metal detecting.  He was also a good pool player.  Steve liked to ride motorcycles with Sugarmomma and do crossword puzzles.  He did a lot of work in support of the Republican Party in the area and was also a past Village of Detroit President.  Steve loved DA Bears and he mostly enjoyed being a Papa.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Manker of Detroit, IL; his parents, James and Connie Manker of Griggsville, IL; his children, Wes Manker, Kendra (Justin) Schneider, Kim Manker, Beth Scott, and Hope (Zach Abney) Scott, all of Detroit, IL; grandson, Talen Wayne Wand; brother, James (Kari) Manker, Jr of Carrolton, IL; sister, Amy (David) Hill of Nebo, IL; grandmother, Mary Nadine Manker of Griggsville, IL; Mary Fleming and Jesse Crook, whom he thought of as his own children; and several nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, William and Helen Lawson, and Eugene Manker; and a brother, Daryl Brite.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Jim Jacques officiating.  Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery near Detroit.  There will be a visitation on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Griggsville Perry FFA or to an Education Fund for Talen Wand.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
