Music by The Piano Brothers

Rose Clendenny, 85, of Pittsfield passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield.  She was born on March 5, 1932 in Pearl to Dola and Zula Ottwell Wheeler.  She married Edward Clendenny on January 29, 1949 in Hardin and he preceded her in death on October 10, 1975.

Rose was a former member of the Bee Creek Church of Christ and was a 1949 graduate of Pearl High School. While raising her children, she worked at Donohoo's Restaurant in Pearl, as well as Brown Shoe Factory in Pittsfield and Capitol Records in Jacksonville.  Rose then went to work as a barge cook for River Ways, where she received several Safety Rewards.  She also worked for Norman Brothers, and then retired with ACBL.  While working on the barge, she would ride the Mississippi River from St. Paul to New Orleans and the Illinois River from Grafton to Chicago.  Rose enjoyed making quilts and baskets, and loved to sew.  She made a lot of her children's clothes when they were growing up, and also taught her daughter's how to sew.  Rose also liked to crochet and read, usually reading two or three books each day.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was known to many people as "Grandma Rose."

She is survived by two sons, Mike (Angie) Clendenny of Bloomington and Jim (Kathy) Clendenny of Franklin; four daughters, Jerry Sue Clendenny of Pittsfield, Mecca Rose (Jim) Rainey of Quincy, Rebecca Deters of Pittsfield, and Bev Dusenbery of Beardstown; a sister, Florence Clendenny of Pittsfield; twelve grandchildren, Kim Roth, Jill Hartke, Josh Hagen, Chalah Hagen, Timothy Roth, Jimmy Roth, Kristy Clendenny, Jeb Myers, Chelsie Myers, Jodi Deters, Jeffrey Deters, and Courtney Dusenbery; twelve great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Clendenny; three brothers, Homer Wheeler, Lee Wheeler, and Carl Wheeler; two sisters, Ruth Wheeler and Edith Abbott; and a great grandson, Joseph Roth in 2009.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 9, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Pastor Calvin Warpula officiating.  Burial will be at Summit Grove Cemetery in Kampsville.  Visitation is prior to the service on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Summit Grove Cemetery, Kampsville, IL or Miller Cemetery, Pearl, IL.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.

Rose will be missed by those who knew her and your family. I will always cherish the wonderful memories of your family. Many times of doing the twist, swimming in the creek, and those horse rides.
