Music by The Piano Brothers

Gary W. Guthrie, 69, of Pittsfield passed away Monday, September 25, 2017 at his home.  Gary was born on October 9, 1947 to Reverend J.W.  and Dorothy Elva Brown Guthrie in Pittsfield.  He married Bonnie Guthrie on October 25, 1997 at Calvary Baptist in Pittsfield and she survives.

Gary was raised on a farm but later, worked in several tire shops and also managed Marine Gas Station.  He went on to become a truck driver for numerous firms.  Gary owned and operated his own truck before driving for Whalen Trucking where he retired from in 2016 after 46 years of truck driving.  In his younger years, he liked to drag race with "the boys" and go hunting.  He loved fishing and collecting die cast cars and trucks.  His favorite was a '57 Chevy.  Gary enjoyed going to the boat and listening to Waylon Jennings.  He was known to be very meticulous about his yard and truck, and was noted for taking great care of his equipment.  He also really loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two sons, Robert (Sharon) Guthrie and Randall (Marjie) Guthrie, both of Pittsfield; two daughters, Kristi Guthrie and Lori (Aaron) Dell, both of Pittsfield; brothers, Donald (Norma) Guthrie and Danny (Lorrie) Guthrie, both of Pittsfield; sister, Elva Hill of Louisiana, MO; sister-in-law, Peggy Guthrie of Pittsfield; grandchildren, Marrissa, Kayley, Mackenzie, Ashley, Austin, and Brittney; great grandchildren, Jaycee, Ellie, Kylin, Kaden, Issac, and Nolan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and three brothers, Paul Guthrie, Clifford Jerry Guthrie, and Lester Lee Guthrie.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield.  Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Blessing Hospice and Illini Hospital Oncology.  Online condolences may be left at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.

We send our sympathy and condolences to your family. I enjoyed many years of going to school and riding the school bus with Jerry and Paul. Both were always much fun and looking to get others to join in their fun. Prayers for all.

So sorry to hear this sad news I really thought a lot of Gary as he was also a cousin. He would talk to me a lot about music as I am a working musician and it was easy to see he loved music. Although I didn't get to see much of Gary in the last few years I can say that he was a good man and gentleman. My deepest sympathy to the family and his many friends may you rest in peace.
Your cousin,
Roger Roentz
