Harold F. “Butch” Colston, Jr., 66, of El Dara passed away April 25, 2017.  He was born in White Hall, Illinois on April 28, 1950 to Harold and Margie Duckwiller Colston, Sr.  He married Caroline Lynch in New Canton on August 27, 1968 and she survives.

Harold served as an E-6 Staff Sargeant in the United States Army and was a highly decorated Vietnam Vet achieving the Bronze Star, Bronze Star with Valor Clasp, Silver Star, and the Purple Heart.  He then worked as a truck driver for over 40 years and also worked as a heavy machinery operator for Sny Levee Drainage District.  Harold was a member of the El Dara Masonic Lodge #388 for nearly 50 years.  He was a huge John Wayne fan.  He was an avid hunter, loved fishing on the Mississippi River with his family.  He also loved working in the garden with his grandchildren and having all of his family gathering together.

He is survived by his wife, Caroline; three sons, Bill (Dawn) Colston of Barry, Robert (Laura Williams) Colston of El Dara, and Brian (Kelley) Colston of El Dara; two daughters, Angela (Rich) Gratton of Baylis and Heather (Jaron) Colbert of Barry; 16 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; three sisters, Peggy Christianer of Quincy, Judy McChristian of Quincy, and Virginia Kindle of Barry.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6:30 PM with the Masonic service at 6:30 PM on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry.  The funeral service will be Monday, May 1, 2017 at 2 PM at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Pastor Wes Tischer officiating.  Burial will be at Morey Cemetery following the service.  Memorials are suggested to Pike County Cancer Society or the Pike County Honor Flight.  Niebur Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with the services.

sorry for you loss I am the barbara that was in the shade family before , then married to chuck goertz, my kids are christina, deborah, and jim shade. I remember you guys and wanted to tell you sorry for your loss, Im a widow of 10 years,and understand how hard it is to lose the one you love. God Bless and help you
