James Wilbur Wright, 76 of Griggsville passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.  James was born on November 15, 1940 in Frankfort, MO, a son of the late Elliott and Loretta Hecht Wright.  He married Sandra Faye Martin on January 13, 1964 in the Pike County Courthouse; she preceded him in death on May 16, 2012.

James was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and worked on the family grain and livestock farm throughout high school and throughout his whole life.  After graduating from high school James worked several years at International Harvester and for Freesen Construction Company.  He later became a heavy equipment operator working out of a Springfield Union Hall until his retirement.  James also enjoyed working on several area farmers' equipment throughout the years.  He enjoyed his trips to Mississippi to visit his niece, Susan and Rusty Camp and their two boys, Peyton and Cannon.  After James was unable to travel, Susan and her family moved back to Illinois to help take care of James.

James enjoyed the outdoors and looked forward to go mushrooming and deer hunting. He loved watching westerns on TV and was a collector of antique tractors, machinery and tools.  James greatly enjoyed his cats.

Survivors are his siblings:  Harold (Judy) Wright of Lewiston, IL; Betty Lou Reel, Bonnie (Gordon) Scranton, Ann Owings and Rosie (Joey) Cawthon all of Pittsfield in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.  James was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Charles and two brothers in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Stevie Wright officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the Niebur Funeral Home.  Interment will be in the Blue River Cemetery near Detroit.  There will be a dinner for the family at the Detroit Town Hall after interment.
