Charles “Dale” Killebrew, 89 of rural Pittsfield, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Barry Community Care Center in Barry. Dale was born in Pittsfield on May 30, 1924, a son of Charles Edward and Faye Emily Ransom Killebrew. He married Betty Jo Hollembeak on July 5, 1947 and she preceded him in death on March 9, 2012.
Dale retired after twenty-plus years with the Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator. He farmed for many years south of Pittsfield on the family farm from a young age with his dad. He and Betty enjoyed camping and were involved in the Fireside Friends Camping Club. He was an avid gardener, canning lots of produce every year. Dale loved to fish and served his fish to many people over the years and some of the families fondest memories are Dale’s wiener roasts and hayrides. He was a member of the Pittsfield First Christian Church and a devout Republican.
He is survived by a daughter, Becky Killebrew Walls and a grandson, Chuck Killebrew, both of Pittsfield. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, a daughter, Sharon on December 6, 2012 and a sister Helen Loyd.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Pastor Mike Pierce officiating. Interment will be in the West Cemetery in Pittsfield. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, September 4, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home.
