Barbara (Bobbie) L. Ruble, 87 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Friday evening, September 16, 2011 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield. Bobbie was born in Pittsfield, IL on November 14, 1923, a daughter of Glenn T. and Alma E. Carrell Hulse. She was raised in Barry, IL and graduated from Barry High School in 1942. She married Bill L. Ruble on April 6, 1947 at the Barry Methodist Church and moved to Pittsfield where they made their home for 56 years.
As a young woman she babysat, worked in a law office and was a telephone operator for Glandon Telephone Company. During the war she worked in Hannibal, MO making canvas boot leggings. After moving to Pittsfield she worked at the Cardinal Inn restaurant when it was near the square. Bobbie helped her family at their grocery store and later the flower shop. She was in business with her husband Bill and father-in-law Lawrence Ruble at Star (Rubleís) Cleaners for over 50 years. Bobbie was best known by many people as a waitress and cashier at the Red Dome Inn in Pittsfield. She had helped her daughter-in-law Patti at Star Cleaners in Pittsfield until retiring at age 83.
Bobbie enjoyed her grandkids and great-grandkids very much. Bobbie liked reading the bible, crocheting, crossword puzzles and attending country music shows. She also collected owl and pig figurines. Bobbie was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Pittsfield for many years and later attended Grace Baptist Church. She also was a past member of the Pittsfield Fire Departments Womenís Auxiliary.
Survivors include two sons, Randall (Pam) Ruble and Russell (Patti) Ruble, both of Pittsfield. Seven grandchildren, Whitney Bradshaw of Payson, IL, Eric Ruble of Girard, IL, Sarah (Jamie) Sweeting of Pittsfield, IL, Becky (Levi) Ladner of Summer Hill, IL, Tom (Rachel) Ruble of Pittsfield, Laura (Jeremy) Shade of Pittsfield, IL and Chris Ruble of Cannelburg, IN. Eight great-grandchildren also survive, Brianna Reel, Dakota Bradshaw, Brock Ladner, Cameron Sweeting, Joe Ladner, Connor Sweeting, Lea Ruble and Aubrey Ruble. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a beloved son, Rick.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Interment will be in the West Cemetery in Pittsfield. Visitation will be held Monday evening, September 19, 2011 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.
