Fred Tittsworth

FRED TITTSWORTH, 73, of Pittsfield, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at St. Johns Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born on December 25, 1936 to Jesse and Evalina Seba Tittsworth  of New Canton, IL. He married Joan Koontz on August 20, 1961.

 

Mr. Tittsworth  helped his parents on the farm raising melons. Mr. Tittsworth graduated from West Pike High School in Kinderhook, IL in 1954. He served in the Navy from 1955-1957. He served one year on a ship in the Pacific. He attended Western Illinois University from 1958-1962 where he majored in math with a PE minor and played four years of baseball on the Western team. He taught Junior High math in Table Grove, IL from 1962-1964. He moved to Peoria, IL and then Indianapolis, IN where he began his career as an independent life insurance agent. He returned to Pittsfield in 1969 continuing his involvement in the insurance industry. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Pittsfield. His hobbies included golf and he spent many hours practicing to improve his game. He spent time helping others improve their game teaching a John Wood golf class and administering private lessons. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed card playing, especially “Gin Rummy”.

 

Survivors: Daughters: Amy Briley and Family, Mike (husband), Shawn, Andrew, Sam (children) of Overland Park, KS. Nancy Sobotka and Family, Brad (husband), Tommy and Tanner (children). Father: Jesse Tittsworth of Barry. Brother: Wayne and Ella Tittsworth of Pittsfield. Sister: Ruth ann  (husband Jerry) Motley of Barry. One niece and two nephews.

 

Mr. Tittsworth is preceded in death by one son Michael Anthony born August 16, 1962 and by his mother.

 

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Michael TenEyck officiating. Interment will be at the Park Lawn cemetery in Barry, IL with Grave side Military rites being accorded by Barry American Legion Post #222. Visitation will be on Friday, June 25, 2010 from 5-7 P.M. at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.

 

Family suggests memorials be made to Pittsfield High School Golf Program or the Western Community School District Baseball Program.
