George V. Spellman

George V. Spellman, 94, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.  He was born in Louisiana, Mo. on May 26, 1916 a son of Frank and Elizabeth Spellman.  He married Leila Fox Swanson in 1945 and she preceded him in death in 1997.

 

George was a foreman for the Brown Shoe Company for thirty-one years then later was employed for Explosive Inc. and Econex/Dyno Nobel as a truck driver. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Pittsfield and enjoyed fishing, hunting, yard work, gardening and his family.

 

He is survived by his daughter, Sandra and husband Gregg Carnes of Pittsfield, and special friend, Nadine Ransom of Pittsfield. Grandchildren surviving are Ryan Carnes, Gay Siepker, Karen (Dean) Jingst, Patti (Dean) Westerman, and Ray (Marsha) Arnold. Great grandchildren surviving are Amanda (Shaun) McGovern, Darin (Janice) Edwards, Heather Faught, Michelle Baucom, Chrissi Baucom,  Shaylon (Bradley) Grant, Travis Arnold, Shane Arnold and Scarlett Buchwald along with ten great great grandchildren.  A nephew, Ben Spellman and numerous nieces and nephews in Missouri and Iowa also survive.

 

George was preceded in death by two stepdaughters, Marjorie Benson and Scharlene Arnold, eleven brothers and sisters, and a great granddaughter, Summer Cheney Arnold.

 

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Interment will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Monday evening, June 21, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home.

 

Memorials are suggested to the Pittsfield Little League Park, Pittsfield Theatre Guild or St. Jude’s Hospital for Children in Memphis, Tennessee.
