Betty E. Harter, 83 of Summer Hill passed away, Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Illini Community Hospital Emergency Room in Pittsfield.  Betty was born on August 6, 1926 in Hadley Township (Barry), a daughter to Jessie and Frances Smith Welch and was raised by Walter Autrey and her mother. She married Charles Harter on September 24, 1944 in Pittsfield and he survives.

Betty had worked for the Summer Hill Drive Inn for 23 years.  She attended the Summer Hill Congregational Church in Summer Hill, IL and as a farm wife enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning vegetables.

Her husband Charles of 66 years, one brother, Ed Autrey of Jacksonville, IL, one nephew and three nieces, survives her.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Tom Wilber officiating.  Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery.
