Earl F. Fry, 81, of Pittsfield, IL, formerly of New Canton, IL passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Eastside Healthcare & Rehab Center in Pittsfield. Earl was born in Ashland, IL on April 25, 1928, a son to Hubert R. and Ethel Watkins Fry. He married Wilma E. Cassen on February 24, 1953 in Petersburg, IL and she survives.
Earl was a grain and livestock farmer in the Pleasant Vale Township area in Pike County near New Canton, IL. He served in the Korea War where he earned the Korea Service Medal with three Battle Stars, a Purple Heart, UN Medal and an Over Seas Bar and Bronze Star. He was a member of the Pittsfield United Methodist Church, enjoyed country music shows and greatly enjoyed listening to his son Phillip play his fiddle.
His wife, Wilma and son Phillip, both of Pittsfield, survive him along with two grandchildren, Wayne Fry of Pittsfield and Amy Lawson of Kirksville, MO. One brother, Irving Fry of Petersburg, IL and two sisters, Shirley Chesser of Chandlerville, IL and Carolyn Miller of Naperville, IL also survive. A brother, Thomas in infancy, preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Tom Wilber officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home. Interment will be in the West Cemetery, Pittsfield, IL.
Memorials are suggested to be made to the Eastside Healthcare and Rehab Center or the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152.
