SPC. Wayne W. Wood, 25, formerly of Pittsfield, IL died Friday, December 5, 2008 in Savannah, GA.  SPC. Wood was born on October 5, 1983 in Decatur, IL. to James and Crystal Wood.

He was an avid fisherman, golfer, hunter, who enjoyed the outdoors.  SPC. Wood was also a member of the local Lion’s Club and a member of Savannah Christian Church in GA., where he was baptized during his leave from Iraq in 2007.  In the Summer of 1998  SPC. Wood  met his wife, Victoria and they were married on March 27, 2006 in Pittsfield.  SPC.  Wood enlisted in the United States Army on April  21, 2006.  He attended Basic Training at Ft. Jackson, SC and Attack Helicopter Repairer Advanced individual training at Ft. Eustis, VA.  Upon graduation SPC, Wood was assigned to Delta Company 1^st Battalion (Attack), 3^rd Aviation Regiment, 3^rd Infantry Division at Hunter Army Airfield, and Savannah, GA as an AH-64 D Longbo Apache helicopter mechanic.  He deployed to Baghdad, Iraq for 15 months in support of operation Iraq freedom V with Charlie Company 1^st Battalion (Attack) 3^rd Aviation

Regiment, 3^rd Infantry Division in 2007-2008.

  SPC. Wood  was awarded the Army Commendation Medal,  The Army

Achievement Medal (1/OLC), the

National Defense Service medal, The Iraqui Campaign Medal, the Global War on terrorism Service Medal., The Army Service Ribbon, The Overseas Service Ribbon and the Basic Air Crew member badge for his faithful duty while serving in the United States Army.

  SPC. Wood is survived by his wife Victoria, Savannah, GA., three children, Damion, Emily and Caitlyn Wood, mother Crystal Wood Decatur, IL., father James Wood, Altamont, IL.  three brothers, Paul Wood, (half-brother, Warrensburg, IL David

McGee, Greenfield, IL,   Timothy (Jimmy) Wood, Oreana, IL.,  Sister Brandi Fisher, (half-sister), Cedar Hill, MO,    Grandmas Alice Mudd and Wanda Wood.  Father and mother in law Leo and Donna Burrows, Pittsfield, IL. 

   Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, IL.  Burial will be at the West Cemetery in Pittsfield, IL.  Military funeral honors will be accorded by the burial detail from Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008 9 till 11:00 a.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, IL.  Memorials are to the Children’s trust fund or Pittsfield Lion’s Club or Shiners’ Children’s Hospital.
