Scottie O. Smith

Scottie O. Smith, 72, of rural Pittsfield, passed away, Friday, December 11, 2009 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.  He was born February 22, 1937 near Pea Ridge, Pike County, Pleasant Hill, IL.   He was a  son of Raymond L. and Esther Guthrie Smith.   He married Mildred “Millie” A. Smith on April 19, 1957 at the Pittsfield Nazarene Church and she survives.  

 

Scottie worked for the Brown Shoe Factory, Benson Motor Company and was a grain and livestock farmer.  He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau and enjoyed farming, coffee drinking and visiting with friends, and greatly enjoyed spending time with his family.

 

Surviving is his wife Millie, sons, Greggory (Simone) Smith of Griggsville and Patrick (Megan) Smith of Pittsfield, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.  One sister, Karol (Rudy) Wainman of Owensboro, KY and several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Robin in 1980, a son, Mark in 1966 and a nephew, Rodney Smith whom was raised in his and Millie’s home.  Two brothers, Milo and Guy Smith and one sister, Virginia Quiller also preceded him in death.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 15 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. John Ruzich and Brian Smith officiating.  Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery in Atlas.  Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, December 14 at the Niebur Funeral Home.

 

The family requests that memorials be made to the Miller Cemetery or the Pittsfield Nazarene Church.
