Shirley C. Carnes, 80, of Pittsfield, formerly of Valley City, IL passed away Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, IL. Born November 30, 1929 in Valley City, she was the daughter of Leonard W. and Grace Mae Robinson Syrkel.  She married Gene Johnson and he preceded her in death April 10, 1962.  She then married Harry B. Carnes, August 31, 1965 in Beardstown, IL and he preceded her in death October 19, 1995.  Shirley was a homemaker and worked at Carnes Café in Griggsville.  She was a member of the Griggsville Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking, houseplants, raising roses and mums, and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and her dog Maggie.

Surviving are six sons; William (Mary) Johnson of Oregon, Wayne (Linda) Johnson of Latham, IL., Rodger (Jenny) Johnson of Virginia, Robert (Sharon) Johnson of Jerseyville, IL., Sam (Diane) Johnson of Ft. Madison, IA, Lewis (friend, Bill) Johnson of Florida.  Three daughters survive; Carla Johnson of Mt. Zion, IL., Judy (Chris) Potter of Pittsfield, and Pam (Rex) Lothridge of Pittsfield.  Special grandchildren; Jeremy (friend, Amber) Carnes, Jessica Wittler and Nina (friend, Teale) Lothridge, Nathen Lothridge and great grandson, Jackson Barker along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren survive.   Two sisters, Mrs Bertha Algers of Missouri and Mrs Janet Boren of Pittsfield also survive.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 8 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Jim Jacques officiating.  Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. noon until the time of service at Niebur Funeral Home.  Interment will be in the Griggsville Cemetery.  A dinner will be held for family and friends at the Nazarene Church in Pittsfield after the services.
