Mr. Thomas Dee “Tom” Wombles, age 64, of Macclenny, Fla., formerly of New Canton, IL. passed away Thursday, Dec. 3 in the Roberts Care Center, Palatka, Fla. following an extended illness. He was a native of New Canton, IL and had resided in Lake City and Macclenny, Florida since 1983. He was the son of the late John Dee and Eulave Edith Main Wombles and was preceded in death by a brother D.J. Wombles. He worked as a car salesman with Pineview Chevrolet, Macclenny, Fla. and Eddie Accardi Chevrolet Mazda, Lake City, Fla. for many years. He was of the Methodist faith, a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy, a member of the Elks Club #893 of Lake City and a member of the Macclenny Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his former wife and close companion, Evie T. Wombles of Kingsley Lake, Fla.; daughter, Danie Fletcher of Macclenny, Fla.; sister, Jacque (Bruce) Penstone of Pittsfield, IL.; four brothers, Denny (Bird) Wombles and David (Lynne) Wombles both of Quincy, IL.; Mike (Bobbie) Wombles of Pleasant Hill, IL. and Kevin (Terri) Wombles of Pittsfield, IL. One grandchild, Haley D. Thomas of Macclenny, Fla. also survives along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 9 at 1 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL with Becky Clark officiating. Interment will be in Shearer Cemetery, New Canton, IL. with graveside military rites accorded by the Barry American Legion Post #222. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Wednesday prior to the service at the Niebur Funeral Chapel.
