Ruth C. Lynge

MRS. RUTH C. LYNGE, 95, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Pittsfield Manor, Pittsfield, Illinois.  She was born on August 19, 1914 in Rochester, Indiana to Ben and Jessie Kiser.  She graduated from Fowler, Indiana High School and attended business college in Lafayette, Indiana.  She married Orville “Pete” Jordan, and he preceded her in death.  On May 5, 1946 she married Raymond Lynge in Duluth, MN, and she immediately adopted his two daughters, Ruth Ann and Linda Lee.  Raymond also preceded her in death on April 23, 1970.

She retired from the Illinois State Geological Survey in 1969 where she was a secretary. She had also worked as a Dental assistant, Jewelry Store (repairs), and the American Red Cross. She loved her family and was always looking forward to seeing them.  She loved to play golf with her family; she even scored a hole-in-one and was so proud of that.  She enjoyed playing cards (especially Rummy and Bridge), collecting antiques, socializing with family and friends and knitting. She loved her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the past three years, she made each of her great-grandchildren handmade quilts. 

She was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church, having attended the Lafayette, Indiana, Joliet, Illinois, Urbana First Methodist Church and the Pittsfield First Methodist Church in Illinois. She sang in the Church Choir in Pontiac and was a member and officer of the United Methodist Women.  She was a past president of the Urbana Opti-Mrs. Club, life member of the Soil Conservation Society of America, Past Worthy Matron and life member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois Pontiac Chapter # 310, now Bloomington Chapter #50, and a charter member of the Champaign-Urbana Antique Study Group.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth (Bob) Adams of Pittsfield, Illinois and Linda (Dean) Austin of Canton, Illinois, five grandchildren, Steven (Jamie) Adams of Lewistown, Illinois, Linda Adams of Windsor Heights, Iowa, Eric (Lori) Adams of Altoona, Iowa, Sarah (Paul) Harris of Johnstown , Pennsylvania, and Deborah (Michael) Geraci of Charlotte, North Carolina, and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Adams and Isabelle Geraci.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Leonard.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, Illinois, with Rev. Tom Wilber officiating.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. with Eastern Star Services by the Pittsfield Order of the Eastern Star # 195 preceding the funeral services at 11 AM.  Following cremation, burial services will be held at a later date at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, Illinois with Rev. Dean Austin officiating.

The family requests no flower and that memorials be made to the Pittsfield United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
