Charles Joseph "Joe" Ross
Charles Joseph “Joe” Ross, age 67 of Barry, IL formerly of Springfield, IL passed away September 3, 2009 at his residence in Barry.  He was born in Springfield, IL May 2, 1942 to Harold Henry and Marjorie Spengler Ross. He married Janet Woodrum November 23, 1963 in Springfield, IL. They lived in the Rochester/Springfield area until moving to Barry in 2008.  

Joe was a truck driver for 32 years, a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local #916, and a member of the Eternal Order of the Eagles Club in Springfield.  He also served for 25 years on the Rochester Volunteer Fire Department and as an EMTI for the Rochester Emergency Rescue Squad for 15 years.  Joe enjoyed fishing, hunting and most of all being Papa Joe to his two grandchildren. 

Survivors include his wife Janet of Barry, his mother Marjorie of Springfield, his son Derek (wife Jennifer) of Barry, along with one granddaughter, Jensen and one grandson, Dylan both at home.  Also surviving are his brother James of San Juan, AZ and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his father Harold and one infant daughter Christine Ross.  

A Memorial Service will be held on September 13, 2009 at 12:30pm at the Eagles Club in Springfield (2700 East Ash) with Rev. Sandy Woodard officiating.  Family would like to meet with friends from noon until service time and also invite friends to a luncheon following the services.  It was Joe’s wish that his remains be donated to medical research which follows his dedication to helping others through his entire life.  In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to the Pike County IL Hospice or the Charles J. Ross Scholarship Fund in care of J.D.
