MR. DALE AKERS, 68 of Pittsfield, IL., died Thursday morning, September 3, 2009 at Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield. He was born on September 12,1940 in Nebo, IL to Benjamin and Ruth Chappel Akers. He married Joyce Ann Shade on October 29, 1961 in the Congregational Church in Pittsfield, IL., and she preceded him in death on January 7, 2005. Mr. Akers worked as an auto mechanic in Detroit , IL, and also worked for Skelgas, Smith Oil Company, and Jennings Amoco. He enjoyed fishing, listening to country music, playing Pitch, and always working on cars both at home and at work. His first job was at the Detroit Market and Channens’ Auto Supply. He worked for Farm and Home until his retirement.
Survivors include two daughters: Wanda (Gary) Palmer of Pittsfield, IL and Terrie (Phillip of Pleasant Hill, IL) Chenoweth of Louisiana, MO; four grandchildren, Aaron (Fiancé, Jennifer Powell) Chenoweth, Ashley (Scott) Elliott, Robbie Palmer, Betsy Palmer (Brandon Thomas); one great grandchild BreeAnn Chenoweth and another due to arrive on December 24th two step grandchildren, Cassidy and MaKinley Powell; one sister, Ruth VaLue of Pleasant Hill, IL, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Joyce in 2005, five brothers, Don, Vernon, Bud, Ronald, and Hubert Akers, and one sister, Louise Knox.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, Illinois with Rev. Tom Wilber officiating. Burial will be at the Samuel Taylor Cemetery, Rockport, IL. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 7 from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, IL. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice of Pike County.
