MRS. KATHIE L. WATERS CAWTHON, 57 of Pittsfield, IL, died Friday (7/3/09) at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO.
Born Feb.16, 1952 in Quincy, IL. she was a daughter of Kenneth L. and Ruth Carlene Summy Waters. She married Gerald E. “Jerry” Cawthon Jan.14, 1978 and he preceded her on November 22, 1998. Kathie was a 1974 graduate of Western Illinois University. Since 1974 she taught HOME Economics and Art at Perry High School and then at Griggsville Perry High School following consolidation. She was the Cheerleaders Sponsor and Senior Class Sponsor and referred to by her students as “Mrs. C.” Kathie was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. Kathie enjoyed singing at church, for weddings, funerals, and many public and school functions. She was a member of the Early Tin Dusters Car Club, Pittsfield Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Illinois and National Education Assn. and served as the local president. She served as president of the Pittsfield Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Kathie enjoyed cooking, traveling to concerts and plays at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, MO., living on the farm as a child and young adult in rural Adams County, shopping in Springfield, going to and participating in all school functions, playing the piano, drawing in pencil and watercolor, judging art shows, and high school basketball games.
Her mother Mrs. Carlene Waters of Liberty, IL survives her. a brother Michael (w-Susan) Waters of Liberty, IL., two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette (h-Mike) White of Liberty, IL., and Mrs. Beth (h-Chad) Pruitt of Commerce, GA., two stepsons, Gary Cawthon of Jacksonville, IL. In addition, Jim (w-Cyndi) Canton of Plymouth, IN., three step grandchildren David, Scott and Sarah Cawthon and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded by her father, Kenneth L. Waters, July 2008 and her husband, Gerald “Jerry” Cawthon.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Beverly United Methodist Church in Beverly with Rev. Lee Reffett and Lois Sorrill officiating. Burial will be at Pittsfield West Cemetery.
Friends may call Monday at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield after 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Pittsfield Chapter order of the Eastern Star will hold services at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home
Memorials are to the Early Tin Dusters Car Club, Griggsville Perry Athletic Boosters or Pittsfield Chapter O.E.S., or Pittsfield West Cemetery.
