Kenneth "Chip" Forshey

Kenneth “Chip” Forshey, age 83, of Barry passed away Monday, May 25, 2009 at the IL Veteran’s Home in Quincy.  He was born July 20, 1925 in Barry, IL to Ulysses C. and Frances E. Lippincott Forshey. He married Bertha Mae Sutton on March 2, 1957 in Palmyra, Mo and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2005.

 

In his earlier years Chip worked as a plumber for O’Brian Plumbing in Barry and Brocksmith Plumbing in Quincy. He retired from Firestone Electric Wheel in Quincy where he operated as a forklift driver. He is a WWII Veteran serving in the Navy on the USNTC in Great Lakes, IL, the USS LST -3, the NOB in Norfolk, VA, the USS Sapphire and the USS Janssen. Chips greatest enjoyment was his family especially the time spent with his grandchildren.  He also enjoyed running around town and going to the Cree-Mee on his scooter. He attended the Barry Church of Christ and was a member of the Barry American Legion Post #222. Chip was a local stockcar enthusiast and liked going to the races. He also enjoyed camping, country music and doing bodywork on cars.

 

Survivors include 3 daughters; Mrs Caroline (husband Donald) Wade, Kathy Johnson and special friend Chuck Lea and Mrs. Larissa (husband Randy) Smith all of Barry. A sister; Marjorie Dixon of Barry, 9 grandchildren; Karen Wade, Kevin (wife Jessica) Wade, Kari Wade, Tiffany Gordan, Kraig (special friend Tera Motley) Johnson, Kirk Johnson, Troy (wife Alicia) Smith, Trevin Smith and Tanner Smith. 9 great-grandchildren also survive; Konnor Wade, Chloe, Alexus and Paxton Wade, Austin Gordan, Kolin Ferrel, Kinsey Johnson, Mason and Brayden Smith.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bertha, 2 brothers; Donald L. Forshey and Robert K. Forshey.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Jimmy Hodges officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5 – 8 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery following the service with graveside military rites conducted by the Barry American Legion Post #222. Memorials are suggested to the Blessing Dialysis Unit or Barry American Legion Post #222.
